I swear, we have the most beautiful brides in the game. Every time we get to see one of our lovely couples all dressed up on their wedding day, it is just overwhelming! We can’t get enough!

In today’s vendor highlight, we are talking with one of our favorite traveling Henna & Makeup Artists, Kaitlyn. She is truly a talent with all things beauty and she is giving us all the details on her story, her favorite upcoming wedding day trends and advice for choosing your own wedding day beauty team! Here we go!

Tell us the story of how you got started in the beauty industry!

Ever since I can remember, I have always loved going to the hair salon and nail salon with my mom. I would get services done with her and it was my favorite way to spend time together. Watching her apply her makeup and her nail advice of “glamour girls never have chipped nails” was like the gospel to me. During our hair appointments, I would always ask my hairstylist to straighten my, otherwise, naturally curly hair. It would make my hair feel so smooth and look so shiny. It was the best. Eventually, when I was in 5th grade, I was gifted a flat iron for Christmas and that was the game changer. I started experimenting with my hair when I was 10 years old. From using a flat iron and curling iron to cutting my own bangs and face frames, I loved playing with different styles. Soon enough, my friends started asking me to style their hair for school dances and events. When the time came to choose a career path, attending Cosmetology school was a no brainer for me and I have been in the industry ever since and love every minute of it!

How long have you been in the industry?

I started Cosmetology school in the fall of 2012, graduated and received my license in the late summer of 2013. So just over 8 years total!

What trends are you seeing in weddings right now that’s got you excited?

Oh my gosh, elopements and backyard weddings have me so excited right now! Eloping is such an intimate, magical and adventurous experience, something that I have always dreamed of for my own special day, that it is making me excited to see more couples doing so. Backyard weddings are so whimsical and family-oriented which makes them so special and fun. Another trend that definitely pulls at my heart strings is the henna trend! Brides, bridesmaids and wedding guests are becoming more and more interested in wearing a henna tattoo to the wedding.

What advice would you give to brides looking for makeup artists and/or henna art?

I would say go with the artist that resonates with you. Choose the artist whose style you prefer but also whose company and conversation you enjoy. Someone you can relate to. It is so important to feel comfortable, understood and heard when choosing your artist. Especially when it comes to your special day.

Tell us your favorite part of your gig!

One of my favorite things about owning my own space is, after a day of providing services and everyone has left, sitting back and taking it all in. The sun is setting or already has set, the spa has warm mood lighting, relaxing spa music is playing, and I look around at everything in the space, reflecting on my day and appreciating all that I am blessed with: amazing women who work by my side, my dream space I get to create out of, the fulfilling conversations I have with my wonderful clients, being involved in such a supportive downtown community. Sometimes I sit and reflect for a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. Nonetheless, it is my favorite part of each day.
